Pochette officielle du single — Columbia Records

It took eight years and a TikTok wave for “Babydoll” to finally land where it belonged. Dominic Fike’s track has just cracked the top 10 of the US Billboard Hot 100 for the first time in the 30-year-old singer and actor’s career — an artist who first broke through in 2018 with his debut mixtape before becoming known to a wider audience through Euphoria.

A song written in a borrowed bedroom, under house arrest

“Babydoll” was never built for the charts. It sits quietly on Don’t Forget About Me, Demos, the breakout EP Dominic Fike recorded in 2018 at a friend’s house in Florida while under house arrest. Co-written with his longtime engineer Julian Cruz, the song is a one-sided love story carried by a hushed guitar line and a loose groove somewhere between alt-rock and reggae. At the time, it wasn’t even released as a single — just one album track among others, noticed mostly by early fans, a far cry from the hit it has become today.

TikTok, the engine behind the comeback

The turning point came in early 2026. A wave of TikTok clips, built around the chorus and opening verse, pulled the song back into view eight years after release, reaching well beyond the artist’s original fanbase. The trend quickly spilled over to YouTube and Instagram, then to US radio: Columbia Records officially reissued “Babydoll” as a single on February 27, 2026, alongside a new music video, and the song entered rotation on major pop stations by March. It climbed all the way to number one on Spotify’s Global chart — a peak rarely reached by a song pushing a decade old.

Catalog songs resurfacing through social media is nothing new at this point. But a viral second life rarely translates into an actual US top 10 entry; most revivals settle for a streaming spike with no lasting impact on the official charts. Fike’s case stands out precisely because the song kept climbing for months rather than fading after a single trending cycle, carried by radio play on top of the streaming numbers.

A peak that came out of nowhere

The result outstrips anything Dominic Fike had hit before. “Babydoll” reaches No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 2 on the Billboard Global 200, while topping the charts in Austria and Switzerland. In France, the track has been certified Diamond, a sign of an audience far beyond the artist’s usual base. The feat is all the more striking given the song was never meant as a single in the first place — it was collective listening, driven by the platforms themselves, that turned it into a hit almost by accident.

Who is Dominic Fike

Dominic Fike broke through in 2018 with his mixtape Don’t Forget About Me, Demos, which landed him a seven-figure deal with Columbia Records. He carved out his own lane in American alternative pop, mixing scrappy guitars, pop melodies and reggae touches. His profile jumped again thanks to his role in Euphoria, which introduced him to an audience well beyond the indie scene he came from. In a message posted around “Babydoll”’s second life, Fike said the song had “only gotten more special” over time — a quiet admission that even he never saw this particular comeback coming.
